Mother’s Day Special Delivery!

Category : Shows

It’s mother’s day on Sunday so this morning we were asking what you think is great about your mum.

We found out many interesting things: Like what it takes to have twins- Eat Sweet Potatoes, put on weight, have loads of kids, never see anyone and leave it till the last possible chance.

We also found out that JPC actually has a mother (the rest of us just assumed he was some sort of a lab experiment gone horribly wrong!) Other than that we learnt very little.

There was also a special Past Force Segment based on the first Email James ever recieved on storm. You can hear it below.

An ‘off the cuff’ post :)

Category : Shows

As the title suggests, this post has no particular subject matter nor style (debatable =P )! However, since me and Pete have had access to this blog for a few months now, I thought it appropriate that we blog a little before the end of the academic year!

Firstly, for those who have been listening to Off the Cuff this year, a big ‘thank you’! Considering the general quality and demeanor of our show, we had never anticipated to gain such a large following! It really does make getting out of bed on Sunday morning worth it ;) So again, thank you! I feel I should briefly mention our ominous third presenter Chris (Celebrity Ginger). For those of you who have listened from the beginning, you’ll know Chris was not a founding member of the show. However, he deserves as much applause as me and Pete! The occasions on which he has co-presented have materialised as arguably our best shows. We hope to see more of him on the show in the future :D (if he pays his fiver membership fee!).

I’d like to think that as aspiring radio presenters, me and Pete have developed a lot over our time on air. Listening back [to previous shows] it’s plain to see our mistakes and shortcomings yet at the same time provide a basis for reflection on how we can improve in the future. Saying that, it’s not been all bad. In fact as I type to you now, I’m sifting through segments of past show recordings to merge into a ‘best of’ compilation. Me and Pete have been considering nominating ourselves for the Storm Awards 2011 (modest much?). We’re not expecting recognition, we never really have – the show has always been about providing for our listeners – but on a scale of Fail/Success, I’d say we’ve somewhat achieved the latter.

It is safe to say that ‘Off the Cuff’ will return next year. So that’s good news. Me and Pete have also, quite apprehensively, decided to stand for Executive positions on the station committee for the next academic year (2011/12). I say ‘apprehensively’ with good reason. After getting to know a few Exec members over the past year, I know we’re in for a roller-coaster ride if we’re successful in our standing. Our third year of study won’t make it any easier. Nevertheless, we are both more than prepared to accept the challenge and I think that more than displays our passion to become further involved with Storm! I won’t say which positions, as I wouldn’t like to jinx either of our chances for success! =P

We only have a few more shows left in the year, depending on how long we both stay for after the summer vacation commences. In my case, I may be hanging around for considerably longer than Pete, so perhaps we’re in for some Eddy-exclusive shows! Good thing? Probably not!

Anyway, I must get back to whatever I’m supposed to be doing (listening to ThunderStorm)… Expect to hear from either one of us again soon!

-Eddy

Flashback!

Category : Shows

We were back to our usual antics once again this week, with our discussions turning to weird beauty tips and The Royal Wedding. You may have tuned in a few weeks ago and listened to us talk about doctor fish, well we have now found a new strange beauty product which involves snail slime cream. The snail slime apparently makes your skin silky and plump, however to us, it still sounds bizarre.
In around a month, The Royal Wedding will be upon us, will you be celebrating? A hotel next to Westminster Abby certainly will be, with prices for rooms with a prime view of the west entrance costing a small sum of £100,000 pounds! There has also been news that a small and tame stag party has already been thrown for Wills on a Norfolk Estate.
That’s it from me for now. Tune in next Monday 8-9pm for some more golden oldies with me and Ali!
Robyn over and out! :)

Today, Stormfm will be proudly giving you coverage from Aberystwyth of the competition everyone is talking about! John Price and Adam Gardner will be on air throughout the day giving you up-to-date scores of the Varsity Championships.

In 2010, Varsity Championships were in Bangor, and won by Bangor 12-9 and we are hoping for a similar outcome today. 400 competitors took part last year and this year will provide with more action and drama than ever before.

Positive proof: waking up in a good mood works

Category : Shows

The regular Thursday Morning Breakfast was back this week- with some incredibly cheery music to wake you up. This was entirely because James actually woke up in a good mood for once. (Someone probably spiked his breakfast!)

There was a brief discussion about School Teachers after the above mentioned James worked out (after playing a song and recalling that his Geography Teacher used to make the class sit and listen to it with their eyes closed,) that he is in fact getting on a bit and it’s seven years since he started his GCSES.

Even after this depressing thought, the tunes kept coming with the promise that the mood would have to drop eventually.

We also played Hugh Laurie’s (Yes- the Hugh Laurie, Dr House, MD!) incredible new single, ‘you don’t know my mind.’ Not only can the man act like a legend, but he can sing like one as well!

This Blog was written some twelve hours after the fact- The mood has apparently yet to drop. Positive proof that waking up in a good mood actually works!

Cam’s 24 Hour Bit

Category : Goings On, Shows

You may have listened to all 24 hours of the show and are now sick of me going on about it. But i’m sure you all want to see Cam’s final ‘bit’, where he explains to Rosie, from Time Travellers Tunes, his favourite parts. Thanks very much to everyone that got involved and help to raise over £600 for Comic Relief 2011.

Jakes On The Deck

Category : Shows

So this week Biscuit decided it only fair to let Jake play with the sliders and dials and take over the main role for a bit, share the burden and all.

We played out some overdue requests and some fresh ones, played some dubstep to try and help Biscuits views on the genre, learnt about Biscuits favourite genre of music and also chatted on the fund-raising happening around Bangor last week for Comic Relief and up coming events for the Red Cross to aid in the Japan disasters. We also played Heist single “Pray For Japan” which has been released for free download in the hope that those who do so will give the money instead to the red cross via their JustGiving page.
