To celebrate, the cast have come up with THE OFFICIAL DARK LEGEND DRINKING GAME (Honestly… that lot have spent more time in the pub than they have actually doing what they were supposed to during the last three months. ;p) The rules are simple.

1. Pick a character from the list below. (If you’re an actor you must pick your own). Every time that character speaks you must drink.
2. Every time the word “Gagging” “Gag” or “Desperate” is uttered, you must drink
3. Every time two characters have a romantic entanglement, you must drink.
4. Every time someone is punched in the face, you must drink.
5. If a character is rendered unconcious/dies, you must down  your drink.
6. Every time there is a manic laugh, you must drink.
7. At the mention of Stephen Hawking, everybody must down their drink. The last person to finish must shot something of the other players choosing.
8. Finally… When all is done, every player must toast to ‘Freedom’ and down their drink.

And to keep you entertained whilst we’re busy editing over the Easter weekend, i thought it’d be fun to throw out some random facts… all of which are surprisingly true!

• The full unadapted version currently runs to twelve episodes and some 560 (approx) pages. (Storms version has 34 and one episode for comparison!)
• Randy’s middle name is Bluebottle
• In the original version, Jo is actually a male.
• Beiderbecke College is named after famous american Jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke (If you’re wondering, the answer is yes!)
• ‘A Town called Malice’ (our episode) is not the only episode title taken from Music. One of the original titles for Episode 3 was Thunderwing (A well known T.Rex B side) and Episode 9 takes it’s cue from American Pie with the title ‘No Angel Born in Hell.’
• Will was originally called Alex and his brother Alex was called Will!
• In total, some 40 named characters die during the course of the story. This is alongside the countless number of Graffe, Chavs, Soldiers, fired up students and innocent bystanders that also go to meet their maker.
• The entire first draft of the story took some two years to fully write.
• The currently planned ‘loose’ sequel is entitled ‘Dark Horizon’ and features ‘something so terrifying that it makes the Graffe look like cute puppies!’
• Several  other sequels, prequels and spinoffs have been planned over the years but never really taken hold. These have included one character on the run from the police, One involving the kids of the main cast being recruited as spies and another involving a bizzare time travel plot. (Is it any wonder they didn’t take hold?)

Dark Legend is written and directed by James Churchill, produced by George Aungier and stars Garreth Davey, Pip Doran and Scott Marsh with Marcus Burscough, Lisa Lympany and Will Faithful as the Narrator.

Firstly we have good news and bad news.

The Bad news first- Unfortunately creating this has been a tougher challenge than we thought. Because of this, we have had to cut the planned three episodes down to one due to time constraints and our remaining budget.

However, the good news is that the majority of recording on the remaining episode has been completed (which includes sfx) and what we have so far is already in the editing suite and being prepared for our premier in may. Even writer and director JPC has stepped in to lend his vocal talents, just so we can get this all done and dusted on time.

Already the music has been preliminary selected, both incidental and Ad breaks and includes some brilliant stuff from Muse, The Jam, Simple Plan, Slade, Gustav Holst as well as something in there for the real jazz nerds to pick up on as well! All is coming together nicely to create what will surely be an astonishing audio experience like nothing you’ve heard on Storm FM Before!

Garreth Davey plays Will, the series dark hearted protagonist and rising Legend. Will has a dangerous past and understands that the choice to be made. He will do whatever is neccessary to save the human race, but even he must come to realize that he cannot do it alone…

Pip Doran is Jo, Will’s best friend and partner in crime. As a bit of a joker, Jo’s attitude keeps up morale during many of the groups darker hours, though even Jo will find herself pushed to the very limit.

Marcus Burscough plays Randy. Randy is the outsider who gets swept up in everything that happens. Whilst he does his best, Randy’s journey will lead him into murky waters where even his friends may not be able to save him…

Lisa Lympany plays Eliza. Eliza’s attitude and behaviour causes a great deal of problems for our band of heroes. Her desire for love will see her treading a dangerous path that could ruin everything.

And Finally…

Scott Marsh plays Jonathon Harris- a despicable and ruthless idividual who believes he can control the mutants taking over the world. He will do anything to stop Will and friends, but is he really in control or is he just deranged?

This week however saw the birthday of Will, the hero of the tale. (Keep your ears peeled, it does get a mention!) To mark this, and the beginning of the recording, and with a little help from a toothless old soothsayer who witnessed the event and a mysterious tome entitled ‘The Red Book of Legend,” Storm FM sent a team of intrepid explorers to find the place where it all began…

Only one of them made it back. He was clutching a diary which we have provided extracts from below:

February 27th, 11:32 AM: After a two day journey we have finally arrived at the small town mentioned by the soothsayer, though we are a long way from the village where Will, the legend himself, was born. Unsurprisingly, the place is empty and without life. The sense of loneliness here is almost overpowering. I must say that i am entirely unnevred by being here. Something is wrong. Many of the buildings are decayed and crumbling whilst rusted cars lie dead in the street. I shall be glad to leave this place as we take the road north up towards the mountains.

1:15 PM: At the end of the north road we have stumbled upon an old farmhouse, that like the town, has been abandoned long ago. Here we have discovered the old farmers diary. Many pages have been torn out and it is barely legible, but the last entry is clear for us all to see. All Hope is lost. We are beaten and soon I fear they shall come for us soon. I can hear them coming up the road from the town. We are doomed. It is clear to us all that something terrible descended upon this farm and the town.

4:15 PM: From the farm house, we have made the long climb up into the mountains towards the place the book calls ‘The spikes of Octavius’  At first it was tough as we hsd to crawl through bracken, bramble and fields of sheep that hadn’t been shorn for many summers. Things became easier as we came to a long undulating ridge above a spectacular valley towards the spiked crown ahead of us. It is fair to say that is beautiful country. Earlier a small cloud of rain appeared below us before fading to a rainbow that spanned the valley like a bridge. As darkness sets in, we make camp beneath the spikes before heading out across the ‘Plains of Rosgorth’ tommorow.

28th February, 2:26 PM: We awoke at sunrise this morning to discover the vastness of the Plains before us, where wild horses roam free. The Plains have taken us most of the day to cross and we are all now feeling tired and morale is low as we sit and rest beneath the great stone watchtowers that guard the birthplace of the Legend. We have been told by the soothsayer that there was once a well travelled road through the valley and up the mountain towards our destination, but it has since been eroded away by time and nature. I cannot see why anybody would live in a remote environment such as this. The route ahead of us is filled with forboding.

4:15 PM: Mist and Fog have closed in and it is bitterly cold. We have spent the last half an hour of our journey trudging through deep snow and have not come more than twenty metres. We cannot continue tonight. Earlier, we discovered the remains of some sort of hideous creature. It appeared to be some sort of humanoid mutant, like something from a science fiction film. We noted that it had fangs and claws, and its skin was a kind of grey. Perhaps this is what attacked the town and the farm house. I pray that we do not encounter a live one on our journey.

1st March, 12:03: Today is the day of The Dark Legend’s birthday, according to the book. We celebrated this morning with cake we had been saving for the occassion. The weather has now cleared and the going is fairly easy. When we reached the peak towering over Rosgorth, the view was spectacular and clear enough to see for miles, even beyond the spikes of Octavius which were now many miles behind us. We have already caught glimpses of the remote village where we are headed as we descend the mountain but it still appears a long way off.

2:42: We have arrived, and as we have suspected for some time the place is deserted. Clearly the creatures have been here. The weather right now is quite pleasant, though all of us feel as though we are being watched. I myself have noticed a sinister shadow, lurking amongst the buildings. I believe we are surrounded…

This March Storm FM are bringing you the sci-fi radio drama of the year!

Dark Legend is coming! A unique sci-fi radio drama written by James Churchill.

We are looking to create a team of people to help produce this 3 part radio drama. We will need -

+ Actors
- To perform as the cast members
- And act as extras

+ Producers
- To act as technicians during the recording process
- To edit the recordings into the episodes
- To create sound effects as post-production

There will be a production sign-up session in the Storm FM production room from 10am till 5pm on Friday 18th February and a casting session for the voice actors in Room G1, Main Arts from 6 till 8pm.

When the teenagers of the world begin to mutate into hideous monsters hell bent on destruction and devastation, there is very little anyone can do except panic. After reports begin to circulate of someone fighting back, a green glimmer of hope appears and a legend is born… When a group of teenagers come face to face with this mysterious legend, they begin a descent into Darkness where they discover only three ways out: Fight, Surrender or Die!
