Amidst the usual  Monday Breakfast talk of amnesiac musicians, rabbits who like liquorice and the smaller than expected left handed population of the world (only 11%) we were talking charity.

Hot on the heels of Children in Need raising over £26 million Bangor RAG have got a great week of fundraising fun lined up for you.

On Friday Otis the Storm Gorrilla took part in a dance off with Rhodri Rag and Daffydd Nightline for Children In Need, check out the video here.

RAG will be out and about all this week to raise money for their four chosen charities; two national National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS)Papyrus UK and two local Shine CymruFareShare North Wales; click the links for more information.

If you want to get involved and donate then come to one of their fantastic events.

Tuesday 22nd November Take Me Out Bangor @ Bar Uno

Thursday 24th November Quiz Night @ The Belle Vue

Friday 25th November Leg Waxing @ Rascals Bar

You can even sponsor a few of the Storm FM presenters to get their legs waxed, so if you enjoy the sight of a man in tears, come and watch Cam, George and Scott skinned in Rascals. If you pay us enough we may even let you take a chunk home with you.

Party Rock Anthem!

Nick and Caryl Party Rock Shuffle

Click the link above to check out our skills!

Friday mornings are getting a douse of dancing when Nick Bell and Caryl Burke start throwing out some legendary shapes in the Storm FM studio. Despite being tea-less, I had the energy to pull off exceptional moves whereas Caryl, high on life and high on hot chocolate was performing one of the best robots ever witnessed amongst the foothills of Snowdonia.

The discovery of the quick buttons was a remarkable bit of fun with Stewie Griffin’s “Who the hell do you think you are?” illuminating our Friday morning and sending our beloved Caryl into a giggling fit. My favourite was “to the bat cave!” Much fun.

Finally before I sign off, the fun Welsh word of the week was Sbigoglys. Guess what that means and you’ll receive a visit from a unicorn with many presents.**

Have a lovely day from the English and Welsh duo!

Nick Bell and Caryl Burke.

**unicorns aren’t real and will not bring you presents for knowing what Sbigoglys means.

The Olympics are coming…

Buses, love ‘em or hate ‘em they get you there in the end. Despite George’s mini tour of Bangor before he got to the studio (he got on the wrong bus in his half asleep state) they can be quite good.

We ended up talking about the Coca-Cola Tour Bus that’s bringing the Olympic Torch to Bangor on Thursday. It’s expected that there’ll be nearly 4000 people descending on Ffriddoed Site for a chance to have their photo taken with THE Olympic Torch. *Sneaky surprise* Storm may just be broadcasting from the top of the tour bus! You’ll have to come see it for yourself to find out, the bus will be on site between 11am and 5pm.

To get in the Olympic spirit we designed our own Wenlock & Mandeville mascots. You can check them out here by searching for mascot #035178 & #035179. They’re a bit strange but their hats make them look like Storm microphones. =)

We also talked about other goings on in Bangor & beyond. This weekend is a busy one for Wales with the Conwy Feast being held right on our doorstep on the 22-23 October. A few of the SU societies have got involved with the Medieval Re-enactment Society and BEDS adding to the local colour. We’re taking a team out on a social training day as well, if you want to get involved just email pc@stormfm.com.

Or if you’re in Cardiff and the area you should check out the Sŵn Festival, it’s a veritable who’s who of local and Welsh music and is well worth a shout. They’re even holding the inaugural Gwobr Gerddoriaeth Gymreig / Welsh Music Prize to commemorate the best Welsh album of the year.

We even featured the Manic Street Preachers track “(It’s Not War) Just The End of Love” as they are up for the prize.

But Eddy noticed a disturbing resemblance to a Steps song “Stomp”.

What do you think?

Breaking News: JPC’s lastest writing Project is ‘Sacrilige!’

Category : Shows

To  those of you who have been following JPC on twitter recently you’ll have probably noticed him going on about something called ‘Project Sacrilige.’ This morning we found out what that was.

Turns out he is trying to write a live action Fireman Sam movie. (Many of you of a certain generation will now be screaming in hatred at your computer screens, considering this to be sacrilige of a childhood favourites.) Though we didn’t get many details on air, we can confirm that the plot ‘goes back to basics, revolving around the story of a man who fights fires.’

The main writing criteria is that it doesn’t end up as ‘Fireman Sam VS Pyro from X Men.’ This was the reason for the main topic of the morning: Kids Cartoons vs Comic Book Characters.

Such suggestions included:

  • Postman Pat VS Catwoman
  • Charlie Chalk VS The Joker from Batman
  • Wolverine VS The Poddington Peas

Further suggestions since we went off air have included:

  • Thomas the Tank Engine VS Magneto
  • Thomas the Tank Engine VS The Juggernaut
  • Pingu VS The Incredible Hulk

To coincincide with the launch of the New Series of Dr Who, we also had a run down of our best dr who stories from each doctor.

  1. The Dalek Invasion of Earth
  2. Tomb of the Cybermen (Second Place: The Mind Robber )
  3. Inferno
  4. Genesis of the Daleks (Second Place: City of Death, Special Mentions: The Talons of Weng Chiang, Brain of Morbius, Stones of Blood (because it mentions Bangor University Archaeology Department)) Androids of Tara, Horror of Fang Rock)
  5. Mawdryn Undead- (Special Mentions: The Visitation and The Awakening)
  6. Trial of a Timelord (Segment 2: Mindwarp AKA: Brian Blessed doing what Brian Blessed does best for 90 Minutes!):  Dishonourable Mention- Colin Baker’s Costume!)
  7. JPC’s Favourite, The Curse of Fenric-  (Special Mentions: Survival, The Greatest show in the Galaxy, Remembrance of the Daleks)
  8. Only one to Choose from here- The Movie!- (Dishonourable Mention: ‘I’m half human On my mother’s side (I mean, WTF?))
  9. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances-
  10. The Waters of Mars-(Special Mention: Tennants Performance)
  11. The Eleventh Hour-  (Special Mention: Everything So Far!)

The next Series (Starting 23rd April) looks to be fantastic and we reckon it might just knock Fenric off it’s pedastal as JPC’s all time favourite.

Only Time will tell. (Ha Ha, Get it?)

See you after easter guys- The Thursday Team.

It’s mother’s day on Sunday so this morning we were asking what you think is great about your mum.

We found out many interesting things: Like what it takes to have twins- Eat Sweet Potatoes, put on weight, have loads of kids, never see anyone and leave it till the last possible chance.

We also found out that JPC actually has a mother (the rest of us just assumed he was some sort of a lab experiment gone horribly wrong!) Other than that we learnt very little.

There was also a special Past Force Segment based on the first Email James ever recieved on storm. You can hear it below.

Positive proof: waking up in a good mood works

Category : Shows

The regular Thursday Morning Breakfast was back this week- with some incredibly cheery music to wake you up. This was entirely because James actually woke up in a good mood for once. (Someone probably spiked his breakfast!)

There was a brief discussion about School Teachers after the above mentioned James worked out (after playing a song and recalling that his Geography Teacher used to make the class sit and listen to it with their eyes closed,) that he is in fact getting on a bit and it’s seven years since he started his GCSES.

Even after this depressing thought, the tunes kept coming with the promise that the mood would have to drop eventually.

We also played Hugh Laurie’s (Yes- the Hugh Laurie, Dr House, MD!) incredible new single, ‘you don’t know my mind.’ Not only can the man act like a legend, but he can sing like one as well!

This Blog was written some twelve hours after the fact- The mood has apparently yet to drop. Positive proof that waking up in a good mood actually works!

Breakfast in Bed- Adapted for the Storm FM Blog!

An adaptation themed breakfast hit your airwaves this morning at 9:00.

We spoke about the differences between James Bond films and Books- Like in From Russia with love (the book) when Rosa Klebb comes out of the Bathroom dressed like a Tart and later ends up in the washing basket (If you haven’t seen the film or read the book- This is Rosa Kleb: ROSA KLEBB).

Something we didn’t know when we woke up this morning was that Fight Club was also an adaptation of a novel. For understandable reasons, we are not allowed to talk about this.

There was also the contemplation of whether cover versions of songs could also be considered adapatations. The answer is probably not.

We revealed the Air Date of the next series of Dr Who as 23rd April and played some Chameleon Circuit (A Band who sing songs based on Dr Who: Chameleon Circuit on Myspace)

Unfortunately, i’m not here next week so someone else will be bringing you the thursday morning edition.

See you in two weeks time- James
